The client engaged Covey & Associates – QLD to design the most cost effective treatment system on the smallest footprint of land.

Background

The concentrated wetland effect that Floating Treatment Wetlands have plus the ability to operate in fluctuating water levels and the zero land use features mean they play a very focal part in tertiary stormwater treatment.

The ability to reduce suspended solids, nutrients and heavy metals is proven and beneficial in any system, but the added features of habitat and visual aspects have captured the wider reaching benefits of biological treatment.

Description

The design team at Covey & Associates masterminded a stormwater treatment with an attractive aesthetic landscaping overlay.

The Floating Treatment Wetlands have been positioned within a sectioned off portion of the sedimentation basin. All low and treatment flows pass through this channel. All storm and high flows bypass through the main sedimentation basin.

During low flows in the dry months a circulation of the whole water body is pumped through the Floating Treatment Wetland.

Benefits

The Floating Treatment Wetlands have helped deliver a low footprint, low operational costing stormwater treatment. Environmentally this project is a winner.

Commercially also this means more land available to developers, more rates collected by local government.
